In Exodus 18, Moses was overwhelmed by the weight of judging and guiding the people of Israel alone until his father-in-law Jethro wisely advised him to delegate and share the responsibility. Likewise, in 2 Corinthians 1, Paul reminds us that God comforts us in all our troubles so we can comfort others with the same comfort we’ve received. These passages reveal that we are not meant to carry the burdens of life—or of others—alone. God designed us for connection, interdependence, and shared strength. When we try to do everything ourselves, even out of love or duty, we step outside of His better way. But when we release the need to “fix” or “carry” others entirely on our own, we allow space for God's grace, community, and mutual encouragement to flow freely.
Reflection Questions:
In what areas of life have I taken on too much, thinking it’s my sole responsibility?
Who has God placed around me to help carry the load—and have I let them in?
Have I been open to receiving comfort as well as offering it to others?
How might surrendering control in these areas make more room for God’s presence and power?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that I don’t have to carry everything alone. Teach me to recognize when I’m trying to do too much in my own strength. Show me the people You’ve placed in my life to walk with, support, and be supported by. Help me to trust Your design for shared burdens and divine comfort. As I learn to receive from You, may I become a vessel of encouragement and strength for others. Thank You for always being with me and sending the right help at the right time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
