Friday, January 5 – Psalm 90:17
May the kindness of the Lord our God be upon us; and confirm for us the work of our hands;
yes, confirm the work of our hands.
For any building to be completed, there must be approval at multiple points in the process. Different professionals look at the plans according to their expertise, making sure the building will function properly and meet the appropriate regulations. Buildings without this process will fail inspections or have issues down the road, even if they look beautiful on the exterior. This process is put in place as an intentional way to make sure each part of the building is constructed with safety and care—they aren’t just hoops to jump through. As Moses closed out his psalm, he asked for God’s blessing for whatever may be next. He communicated His desire to not just live according to his way but to go in the way of the Lord.
We are only on the fifth day of the year, but it is probably safe to say you already have a lot of plans for this year. We have so many ideas, ambitions, and events that fill our lives and calendars. Before you get lost in your plans and ideas of what you want to do, do as Moses did in this psalm and ask for God’s blessing and direction for what is ahead. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” God has a direction and purpose for our lives. We live to glorify Him, and it is important to look for His blessing and direction at every step.
- What are some of your plans for 2024? Have you prayed about these plans? Why or why not? How do you need to do so today?
- What are some doors you see God opening in 2024? What are some new opportunities of ministry or new people you may be able to minister to?
- Pray and tell God your hopes and plans for the year. Ask Him to direct you, even if that means going in a different direction than you’ve planned.
