Friday, September 23 – Malachi 1:11
“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My name shall be great among the nations, and in every place frankincense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name shall be great among the nations,” says the Lord of armies.
There is so much change in the world that it can be hard to find something truly constant. In this passage, God tied Himself to one of the most constant things we see each day—the rising and setting sun. Before us and long after us, this rhythm has taken place and will continue. When we make choices for what we do with our lives or even what we do in a day, we anchor in things that are constantly changing. It is valuable to be a good steward in daily life but if we have not anchored ourselves in the one true constant, we will never truly fulfill the purpose God has for us.
God’s name will be made great in the nations, that is certain. This does not depend on what we do or don’t do. The question is, will we be a part of it? As a follower of Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit and united with other believers, you are tied to the one true Constant. You have been made new by Him. Is this a testimony you are ready to share? God has called the church to be His light to the nations. How much does this impact your daily life? Each of us are given the choice to anchor our lives in Him or some other lesser thing. By His power, the name of God will be made great through the nations, and He has chosen you to be a part of this powerful mission. Will you join Him?
- How does it feel to know you are united to the one true Constant of the world in Christ? What lesser things have you sought to connect yourself to?
- What would it look like to make God’s name great in your life right now?
- Pray and ask God to remind you of His great name every morning as you rise and see the sun. Ask Him to lead you to live as His light in the world today.
