Monday, January 23 – Hebrews 4:12

Jan 22, 2023

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

There are certain people in our lives who we have grown up with or let in to the point that they can see things in us that we may not even see. They may see potential where we feel unequipped, or they may see the sin that we have always been blind to. Those people can make a huge impact on us. We see the active role they play in our lives as they encourage us and speak the truth, but we often don’t view Scripture from that same “active” perspective. It feels fixed like any other book because the words remain the same every time we read them. Even more challenging, much of the Bible can be hard to understand, or we have a tough time finding the application we are looking for.

Let’s take God at His word today. His Word is living and active, not stagnant and dated. When we look to His Word, we receive more truth than we could find even in our closest confidant. Let’s be prepared to read the Word, not only thinking about what to do with each passage but also seeking how it can transform our hearts and teach us where we need to grow. We all know we need to grow and learn more about life. If we spend our whole lives searching for what other people think, we will miss out on the wisdom and transformational truth offered in the Word.

  • What would it look like for you to believe God’s Word is active?
  • When have you been convicted deeply by something you read in the Word?
  • Pray and ask God to transform you through His Word and by His Spirit.
