Monday, May 1 – Colossians 2:6-7

Apr 30, 2023

Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

Do you remember the moment you started following Jesus? For many, it was a memorable moment of passion and excitement for their newfound faith. Even if we can’t remember the exact moment we came to faith, we can recall when things started to click, and we shifted from living for ourselves to living for Christ. That zeal we start with often subsides in routine and everyday life. Ordinary days make it easy to forget how Jesus has changed our identity and purpose.

In many stories, the heroes must go back to their roots when they face a crisis. No matter how great their ability, they can only go so far before they have to be reminded of their original purpose and calling. Many of us need that same reminder. We can easily try to do things for God and in His name but forget the way we originally depended on Jesus. No matter how deep you grow in your faith or how distant God feels in a difficult time, you are called to continue to remember your roots and the simple grace by faith that you originally received. As we move on to different seasons of life, whether moving to a new place, welcoming a new family member, or having a different dynamic in our family, we continue to live according to this faith in God who has called us, transformed us, and given us purpose.

  • When have you felt distant from the grace of God that first changed you?
  • How can you continue to walk in step with Jesus through changes in your life?
  • Pray and ask God to help you learn how to continue to walk in Him.
