Thursday, November 3 – Revelation 4:11
“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”
When an artist places the first brush stroke on a canvas, something new is being created. With each brush of paint, its uniqueness is magnified. Even the original artist cannot perfectly replicate a great work of art. Each brush stroke is unique in its placement, imprint, and manner in which it blends with the piece. Yet even artists depend on the resources they are given to create such works of art. They need the canvas, the paint, the inspiration, and the imagination to be able to accomplish their task. But God created the world from nothing. In Him everything necessary for this masterpiece was present. His role in our world is all-consuming. He created life, sustains life, and continues life through His ability.
We sell ourselves short on seeing God at work when we ask Him to fix certain things for us but leave other areas of our life alone. If God can create and sustain the universe, why wouldn’t we believe His power is enough for our lives? If He created the earth, He knows how to tell us to live, and He knows the path that will lead us to the most joy in Him. His ability does not change whether we believe in Him or not—the question is if we will recognize His unique work in the world and give Him praise. As we read into today’s passage, “Worthy are you, Lord!” May our lives be an anthem of giving Him glory in all that we do in good times and bad.
- How does knowing God created and sustains the earth help you trust Him?
- What beauty have you seen in the world that reminds you God is worthy of praise?
- Pray and thank God for being the author and sustainer of all things. Give Him praise and glory for what He has done!
