Tuesday, August 30 – Psalm 55:22
Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.
Have you ever walked into school or work carrying a cumbersome load, but when someone asks if they can help you respond, “I’ve got it”? Even with a load that is weighing us down, it is hard to let someone in to help. As we let people in to help us with the load we are carrying, whether physical or emotional, it can feel overwhelming to try to figure out how others can help. This often translates to our relationship with God. We may tell Him about our heavy load when we are overwhelmed, but we often do not express our daily burdens that may seem irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
God is not waiting for you to do the best you can only to step in when you need a hand. He is always there, ready to carry your burdens at every step whether it is frustration in traffic or a heart-wrenching loss. Thankfully, we never have to be good enough or try to earn the things we receive from Him. He is always there, never-failing. Consider one of the people you regularly confide in. There is a depth to your relationship from the major events in your life but there has also likely been growth that has taken place when you have shared your burdens, even if they seem like small irritations. We can trust God with our burdens. We can lay them at His feet and trust Him to restore us. You may feel like you have met your limit, but your heavenly Father will sustain you. Cast your burdens on Him today because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
- What burdens do you typically share with God? Which ones do you try to handle yourself?
- What would your prayer life look like if you regularly cast your burdens on God? How would that affect how you rest in Him?
- Pray and cast your burdens on the Lord, asking Him to help you find rest in Him.
