Tuesday, January 31 – 2 Peter 1:17-18

For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such a declaration as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased”— and we ourselves heard this declaration made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.

On many job applications, there is often a portion allotted for references. The applicant gives contact information of people that will vouch for them regarding their work ethic, character, and more. At the end of the day, those references carry great weight in the hiring process, especially when the references selected are related to the field of application. These references verify that the person is who they say they are. This is what was so significant about the moment of Jesus’s transfiguration for Peter and the other disciples. They clearly saw and heard God’s commendation of His son. When so many others called Jesus out as a liar and fool, the disciples witnessed the work of Jesus. It was not only the miracles He performed or His teachings that showed His authority but also that God the Father affirmed all that Jesus said was true.

Trusting this testimony had massive, life-changing implications for the disciples. When we are anchored in God’s Word, trusting His testimony and truth like the disciples did, we have the opportunity to be a part of His work in the world. Jesus prayed in John 17:22-24, “The glory which You have given Me I also have given to them, so that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and You loved them, just as You loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” May we also live as witnesses of His glory, changed by His Word, and transformed by His Spirit so that others might see who He is through us.

  • How have you been a witness of God’s glory through His Word?
  • What does it look like to live changed by the Word so that you can be a part of the unity Jesus spoke of in John 17?
  • Pray for unity with Jesus and the Father so that you may bear witness of His glory to others.
