Friday, February 17 – Malachi 3:6

Feb 16, 2023

“For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore you, the sons of Jacob, have not come to an end.”

In the study of logic, one way to explain how something happens is called an “if, then” statement. If this happens, then this will happen; if this is the case, then this is the case. Sometimes in our minds, we separate who God is from who we are. This verse is a reminder that God’s attributes and who He is are more than inspiring things to know or be encouraged by, they are the very reason we exist. The only reason we are here is because God is who He says He is. The only reason we live in His grace as followers of Jesus is because He is unchanging and keeps His promises.

We recognize how people effect our lives, how they have molded us to be who we are today for good and for bad. How much more has our heavenly Father influenced us? When we open our eyes to see this reality, we stop taking for granted our very breath and recognize He fills our lungs, and we stop looking at difficulties as mere obstacles but as opportunities to call on His name. If you are living and breathing today, God’s unchanging nature has affected your life. If you are living as a follower of Jesus, consider all the times He has been faithful even in your times of weakness and doubt. Praise be to God that His amazing attributes have affected each of us personally, so that we can know and glorify Him!

  • How has God’s unchanging nature affected your life personally? When has He been faithful when you were faithless?
  • When have you been tempted to take credit for the success of your life? How does that rob God of His glory and you of joy in Him?
  • Pray and ask God to show you further ways He has sustained and upheld you throughout your life.
