Thursday, February 16 – Numbers 23:19

God is not a man, that He would lie, nor a son of man, that He would change His mind; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

We understand the importance of trust in many areas of life. We know friends must trust one another, or athletes must trust their teammates, and in our faith, we need to trust God. Yet often there is a disconnect between what we say and how we act. It is easier to talk about the need to trust God than to do it.

This passage is a reminder to trust God and believe He is who He has said. When we come to a crossroads, seeking to live out this trust we talk about so much, we can remember that God will never fail us. He is perfect, true, and unchanging. Consider His faithfulness to those who have gone before you in Scripture, hold fast to the promises He has made in His Word, and be reminded that He is God, not a man that He would lie or change His mind. Consider the exhortation of Hebrews 10:23, “Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Throughout Scripture, He is spoken about as our unchanging God, and throughout history we have seen this to be true. Don’t allow one discouragement or hard season deter you from the truth that has never changed or faltered. You can trust Him as your eternal hope.

  • When have you found it easier to talk about trusting God than actually trusting Him?
  • How does God’s unchanging nature and character help you trust Him?
  • Pray and ask God to remind you that He is unchanging and faithful forever.
