Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

There are many stories that get passed down from generation to generation and the details get lost in translation or changed over time. Like a game of telephone, the story can be told very differently from one generation to the next. Even in our best attempts to preserve a story, over several generations many of them are forgotten. This is one reason the words of Jesus are so powerful. We know that even in our best efforts as humans, we cannot preserve a story of our own. The enduring nature of the Word is just one of many things that remind us that it can only be from God. The Word of God is enduring and true for every generation.

When a child does what they think is best, we often laugh because adults have the experience in life to know what the child has in mind will not go how they think. Yet even as we gain wisdom and experience, we must continually walk in humility, knowing there is truth in the Word of God that goes beyond our brief lifespan. When we don’t understand, let’s dig in deeper, ask questions, and trust the God who has carefully given every part of His Word. When we seek advice or a better understanding of the purpose of our lives, we don’t need to look any further than the Word of God, which will be sufficient and relevant for all eternity.

  • How should the reality that God’s Word stands the test of time and endures forever change the way you approach it?
  • How can you share the story of Jesus with the next generation?
  • Pray and ask God to show you how to be a part of sharing His Word with someone today.
