Friday, March 3 – John 18:37

Mar 2, 2023

Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.”

Today, we have so many means of accessing information, it can be difficult to discern the truth. We can look on the internet to search for answers to our questions on any subject, we can read books, or even ask friends, and somehow it feels like we get different answers every place we turn. When Pilate spoke to Jesus in this passage, his question only scratched the surface of who Jesus is. He is King of kings and Lord of lords, but that is not all that He is. He is the source of truth, the One who makes it possible for us to know the truth of God and live reconciled with Him.

When we don’t know what to do, it is easy to consider the truth of Jesus as only one of many options. But He is the One who guides us to the truth and shows us the truth; He also lived out the truth and reconciled us so that we could know the truth. May we seek to develop ears to hear His voice in a world overloaded with information. Let’s listen and respond to Him as King, Lord, and the only truth in a world of questions. When we view Jesus as one option of many, we will often choose what is most convenient and comfortable for us. But when we recognize that He is the way and the truth, we recognize His way is always best, no matter the circumstances.

  • When have you struggled to discern what is true when you had many voices coming your way?
  • How has God guided you in the truth? How can you seek to continue in His truth?
  • Pray and ask God to give you discernment as you seek His truth.
