Thursday, March 2 – John 8:31-32

Mar 1, 2023

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

In a new relationship—whether romantic or platonic—we want to know more about the other person. Most relationships follow this progression of meeting someone: we are intrigued by them and get to know them more as the relationship grows. In our relationship with Jesus, we grow in Him and through Him when we cultivate a deeper relationship with Him and continue in His Word.

Many have experienced the excitement of early stages of learning the truth about Jesus and starting to follow Him but later growing complacent in our pursuit of a relationship with Him. Before we know it, we have begun to live on spiritual leftovers. Jesus called those who had believed in Him to continue to in His Word. He promised that when we abide in Him, we will know the truth and the truth sets us free! Will we make it our aim to continue in His Word even when it is difficult, inconvenient, or uncomfortable? Will we hold onto the promise of knowing freedom through Christ? For every worthwhile endeavor, a person has to endure hardship, believing the end goal is worth it. Hold onto His truth in keeping with the words of Hebrews 6:19, “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and reliable.”

  • When have you struggled to continue in God’s Word? Where are you struggling with that now?
  • Who has challenged you to stay in God’ss Word? How can you do that for others?
  • Pray and ask God to equip you to continue in His Word.
