Monday, January 1 – Psalm 90:1-2
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
Most stories start at the beginning. The starting pages of a book or first scenes of a movie help us know the important characters, setting, and other foundational information. When the author sets the scene at the beginning, it builds the framework and lens through which we understand the events that follow.
When Moses wrote this psalm, he started at the beginning because this builds the foundation for everything else. God has not only been present in all generations, but He has also been our dwelling place in all generations. He existed before all things. He has been God, is God now, and will be God forevermore. This understanding shaped Moses’s thinking and perspective on life. Can we say the same? It is the first day of 2024. When we reflect on 2023 and years past, can we truly say God has been the foundational element in our lives? This is the start of a new year, a new day. Before we bring in our ideas and plans of what we want this year to be, let’s seek to be anchored by the firm foundation of the One who has established the world and will exist forever. May He be our dwelling place in this year to come!
- What were some foundational elements of 2023 for you? How did that affect your year?
- What would it look like for God to be your dwelling place in the year to come?
- Praise God for being the beginning of our story and your dwelling place.
