Monday, May 23 – Genesis 1:27
So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
When a child is born, many parents quickly look to find the similarities between the child and themselves. They look for whose nose the baby has and debate over who the child looks more like. All humans are made by God. God made humans special because He created them in His image; an attribute He didn’t give to any other part of His creation.
Being made in God’s image affects everything about who we are, but one of the biggest ways it affects us is our need for relationships with one another. To relate with one another is fundamental to bearing God’s image. We desire to be known and loved by people. Extrovert or introvert, public speaker or quiet loner, God has created us with a design for a community with Him and each other.
When life gets tough and people get difficult, it is easy to shut them out. When we remember community is part of God’s plan and design for our lives, we are empowered through Him to pursue a deeper relationship with those around us. It is not always easy to break the ice and pursue more than just a surface-level relationship. Even in the hard moments, unity is worth pursuing because it makes relationship the priority over being right. We can trust God’s design, and we can praise Him for how He sees our need for each other.
- How do you see God’s design for relationships in your everyday life?
- Why is it easy to shut people out?
- Pray and ask God to remind you of His design for you to be in relationship with others.
