Monday, November 20 – Joshua 23:6-8

Nov 19, 2023

Be very determined, then, to keep and do everything that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, so that you will not turn aside from it to the right or to the left, so that you will not associate with these nations, these which remain with you, or mention the name of their gods, or make anyone swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them. But you are to cling to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day.

What are some guiding principles you hold to in life? We hold on to principles like being honest or working hard because they have served generations before us and have been passed down to as wisdom to carry through any life stage or circumstance.

Joshua left the people with the important call not to forsake God’s teaching or stray away from Him in any way. Why? Because God was working all along, and He would continue to do the work. Many times after a hard circumstance or particularly trying season, we are tempted to take control of things on our own instead of depending on God. But the call to follow Christ is not just for specific times, it is a guiding principle through all of life’s circumstances.

Paul’s encouragement in Philippians 2:12-13 remains for us today, “So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure.” May we hold onto our faith and grow in it daily so that we can see God move continually in our lives and in the world around us.

  • How have you pursued following Jesus is a particularly trying season?
  • When have you felt tempted to abandon your faith?
  • Pray and ask God to guide you and help you cling to Him.
