Thursday, March 9 – John 3:16

Mar 8, 2023

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.”

Do you find it easy or difficult to express your feelings toward others? Some people have no trouble expressing how they feel about others, but some struggle immensely. Thankfully, God has no trouble showing us His love and has continually shown us the depths of His love for humanity. Throughout the Bible, we see expressions of God’s love and His pursuit of reconciliation with His people. In Jesus, we see the love of God to send us His Son and to give up His Son so that we might have true reconciliation with Him. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” While we were undeserving and far from God, He expressed His love to us in the most magnificent way.

But God’s love, expressed most clearly in Jesus, is not only for us to receive but for us to share. First John 3:16 says, “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers and sisters.” The love He expressed is extraordinary, sacrificial, and beautiful. It also has a purpose: that we may be made right with God and share this love with others so that they may made be right with Him also. God’s love should change how we live and treat others every day. We have been witnesses and recipients of extraordinary love, so why would we keep that to ourselves?

  • When have you witnessed sacrificial love from another person? How is God’s love even greater than any human display of love?
  • What would it look like to lay down your life for those around you this week?
  • Pray for those that you interact with on a regular basis. Ask God to equip you and show you how to love them in a sacrificial way that will point to Him.
