Wednesday, March 8 – Jeremiah 31:3

Mar 7, 2023

The Lord appeared to him long ago, saying,

“I have loved you with an everlasting love;

Therefore I have drawn you out with kindness.”

A wedding anniversary is a special occasion that celebrates the longevity of a commitment made in the past that is still active today. When we hear of a couple being happily married for a long time, their commitment garners a certain level of respect, as we understand that enduring love does not come naturally or easily. It requires effort and commitment in good times and bad.

Of all the ways God could describe His love, He chose the term “everlasting.” This kind of love is extraordinary to us because we know is not the norm for people. We have all experienced the hurt of heartbreak and felt the consequences of broken commitments. But God’s love is not marked by these things that are so common in our human experience. His love truly is everlasting. This is amazing news because even though we don’t haven natural ability to be that committed, God is that committed to us. He pursues us with love that never runs out. He continually pursues His people with kindness. Regardless of our testimony and past experiences, this love of God is always available to us. When we recognize the power in that love, we will desire to carry that love to others. Because we have received kindness, we strive to show others kindness. Because His love has been enduring, we commit to living in Him with all that we have. Jesus said in John 13:35, “By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.” When we live this way, just like the long marriages that give us hope for a lasting earthly relationship, we show others the hope and enduring love of our heavenly Father.

  • How have you experienced God’s everlasting love?
  • When have you been disappointed by earthly love? How has that affected the way you perceive God’s love?
  • Pray and thank God for His everlasting love.
