Thursday, November 23 – Joshua 23:14
Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the Lord your God spoke concerning you has failed; they all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed.”
On this holiday of Thanksgiving, we have many traditions of gathering with family and friends. We catch up over food preparation, eating, watching a football game, and cleaning up. This is also a day we stop to give thanks. As followers of Jesus, we have so much to be grateful for. Even in the difficult circumstances of life, we can hold to the truth that the Lord has never failed us. When Joshua called the people to look back, he called them to look at the promises of God to see how God had been faithful. Are we looking back at our year in those terms, or are we looking back based on our own measurement of if God worked in the way we wanted?
When we consider God’s promises, He has always been faithful, across generations and situations, and has never failed. Second Corinthians 1:20 says, “For as many as the promises of God are, in Him they are yes; therefore through Him also is our Amen to the glory of God through us.” Every promise of God has or will be fulfilled, and that is something to be grateful for year-round.
- What are some of the promises of God that you have seen fulfilled in this past year?
- What are some ways you can be thankful to God this year?
- Pray and ask God to mold your heart to focus on gratitude for what He is doing and for the promises He has fulfilled.
