Tuesday, January 10 – Psalm 12:6

Jan 9, 2023

The words of the Lord are pure words;

Like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, filtered seven times.

When preparing a new meal, we often look for a recipe that is tried and true. You may ask a friend or loved one for his or her recipe or look at reviews for online recipes to see how the dish will turn out or tips on how to make it. The Word of God is valuable to us because it is more than the “next best thing,” it is the tried-and-true Word. It is stable, steadfast, and pure.

The Bible does not always have the quick tips we’re searching for or the precise advice on how to get through a specific circumstance in our lives, but it holds something much greater. It is a grand narrative of our God and His creation, showing us a life of faith in God that endures whatever we face. Many of the best recipes can’t be made quickly with the easiest ingredients, but the results are worth the effort required. Digesting the Word can feel like an intimidating task but just like the best recipes, the effort is always worth it. We don’t need to find the quick fix or the easiest way out because we have a steadfast, enduring guide through God’s Spirit working in His Word.

  • What are some passages of Scripture that have encouraged and bolstered you in hard seasons?
  • Where do you go to look for advice? When in your life have you sought wisdom from the Word? When are you more likely to seek wisdom from the world?
  • Pray and thank God for the purity and sufficiency of His Word.
