Wednesday, January 11 – 2 Peter 1:21

Jan 10, 2023

For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Have you ever started a project only to second-guess yourself halfway through? It is only when we remember our end goal and the purpose of the project that we are motivated to complete what we started. Peter gave this reminder to the church so they would stay steadfast in the calling they had been given. In 2 Peter 1:19 he said, “We have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” It was important for the church then and is important for us today to remember that the Word of God is more than old stories and isn’t a creation of man. The Bible you own has been written by those who were moved by the Holy Spirit, not to make a name for themselves or even to start a movement. It is the Lord who has put His Word together, and it is through His Spirit that we see the truth of His Word and how it applies to our lives.

As Peter reminded the church, we will do well to see how God brought His Word together in a way that man never could. As we remember how He fulfilled the messages of the prophets even though they didn’t see the fulfillment, we are reminded that every promise of His will be fulfilled. God gave us His Word not as a book written by one person at one time, but as a one story of redemption brought together by His Spirit over thousands of years so that we can clearly find Him in it.

  • How does the reminder that the Word of God is reliable encourage you today?
  • Why is it important to understand the Bible as the Word of God, not just a man-made document?
  • Pray and thank God for how He has used people throughout history to write and share His Word.
