Tuesday, November 7 – Joshua 14:10-12

“And now behold, the Lord has let me live, just as He spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, when Israel walked in the wilderness; and now behold, I am eighty-five years old today. I am still as strong today as I was on the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in. Now then, give me this hill country about which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day that Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the Lord will be with me, and I will drive them out just as the Lord has spoken.”

Some products have a lifetime guarantee. This means the manufacturer promises the product will last through the wear and tear of life. Not many things that have that kind of warranty because not many things last that long. Most things in life will wear and tear, get worn, and fall apart over time. When Caleb looked ahead at where God was leading, he knew there was a lifetime guarantee—the Word of the Lord would prevail even after so much time had passed. It would not fade or grow worn. Why was Caleb so sure about what would come to pass? He trusted the promises of God and knew God had equipped him with the strength to carry on.

Following God is twofold—trusting that God is who He says and will do what He says and trusting that He has given all we need to follow Him faithfully. When we have those two things, we can follow God confidently wherever He may lead. Paul’s prayed for the church in Colossae in Colossians 1:10-12 to “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all perseverance and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” Following Jesus is not just about being saved but about trusting God daily, growing in Him, and knowing He will keep His promises forever.

  • How does it encourage you to know God’s promises will not fade or grow worn?
  • Have you ever grown weary of trusting God? Why or why not?
  • Pray and entrust the things you have to God.
