Wednesday, January 18 – Proverbs 30:5

Jan 17, 2023

Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

When children get hurt, no one usually has to tell them what to do next. They typically know who will protect them and take care of them in their time of trouble. In these moments, children will run to a parent or loved one over a medical professional if both were nearby. We often trust people in different ways depending on their expertise. We’ll trust doctors to give medical advice, airplane mechanics to make sure aircraft are functioning properly, and firemen to put out fires. But we might not trust them to do each other’s jobs. We trust people to do what we believe they’re best equipped to do. Through Christ, we have the Great Physician, Healer, Peacemaker, and Reconciler as our Father. We have the most equipped Being to turn in times of joy, questions, and sorrow. However, if we never seek to know God through His Word, He will always feel like a distant figure who does not understand our condition, and we won’t turn to Him since we don’t know Him very well.

The more we learn who God is, we see that He is our shield and we come to know personally how we can take refuge in Him. His Word guides us to know Him and continually build trust in Him. Through His Word, we can get to know who He is, what our purpose is, and be transformed in His image. Through His Word, we can draw close to our Creator, trusting His design for life with Him.

• What have you learned about God through His Word?
• When have you turned to the Word of God in a time of trouble?
• Pray and ask God to help you turn to Him and His truth in the Word.
