Wednesday, January 31 – 1 Timothy 4:8

Jan 30, 2024

For bodily training is just slightly beneficial, but godliness is beneficial for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Some things about the world are true for all people. Each of us have sixty minutes in an hour. Each of us has twenty-four hours in a day. Each of us has seven days in a week. But what we do with that time varies wildly. Some of us work in an office for twelve hours, some of us continually care for a loved one, and some of us have to go to school. Some of us work early mornings, and some of us are awake late into the night. We also have different focuses in life. Work is all consuming for some while family is always at the forefront for others. Wherever you are, and whatever you do, godliness is beneficial. It is not just a bonus; it is foundational to understanding life and living with an eternal purpose.

Many argue that faith only applies to certain areas of life, but this passage and so many other parts of Scripture tell us the opposite. Christ followers’ faith is all consuming and should inform everything we do. Our faith should overflow into godliness that points others to God. Our faith is more than merely a value system or religious practice: it leads us to surrender to the Lord and depend on His Spirit to equip us in godliness. Wherever you are, whatever you do, you can live each day with eternal purpose, investing in treasure that will not perish or spoil. Your faith can apply to your workplace, your home, your hobbies, and your friendships. There is great potential and possibility when you surrender to Him!

  • What areas do you find it difficult to apply your faith to?
  • Where do you see God working in your life? How can you join Him in this?
  • Pray and ask God to live your faith in all areas of life.
