Thursday, March 23 – Psalm 111:2

Mar 22, 2023

Great are the works of the Lord;

They are studied by all who delight in them.

There are some things that grip our attention that create more than just an appreciation but a deeper desire to learn about them. You may have been captivated watching a pianist, which led you to learn the instrument yourself. Or maybe you had a great English teacher, which caused you to dive into the subject, reading classic literature outside the classroom.

There are so many marvelous works of the Lord. It’s one thing to admire them but another to grow in awe to the point of studying them. God has given us His Word to teach us who He is, and His handiwork is also written across creation. While we always learn through the lens of Scripture, we don’t have to shy away from learning about God’s work in creation. If biology is the study of life, we can learn much when we know the Author of life. If chemistry teaches us about the structure of substances, we can learn much when we know the One who is the very substance of life. When we can search the internet to answer any of our questions, it is difficult to understand the purpose of studying something for ourselves. But when we see life through the lens of God, we can see more than a matter to appreciate but an opportunity to learn more about who our God is and praise Him for His handiwork.

  • What are some of God’s works that you have studied?
  • How have you experienced study of a certain subject as a pathway to further seeing God’s work in the world?
  • Pray and ask God to help you grow in your desire to know Him and learn more about who He is.
